Medical use
of marijuana
For many
years the use of medical marijuana has been a topic for debate, mostly if the
health care system should use it as an alternative treatment for patients, which
in fact, many of them claim that cannabis provides relief for symptoms like
pain, nausea, migraine and many more. So it´s time for governments, mostly the
most conservative ones, to start to evaluate and investigate profoundly the
possibility to include marijuana as a valid option for people to choose.
According
to a series of researches, like the one done by the National institute of
mental health’s and the UK’s medicinal cannabis research foundation, marijuana,
and specially it’s substance called cannabinoids, can suppress pain
neurotransmission and is very effective treating chronic pain. For example, in
cases of people suffering from arthritis, cannabis act as an analgesic, secreting
cytokines which are essential in host responses to infection, inflammation,
trauma, cancer, sepsis and immune responses.
Besides, stated
by the Institute of Medicine, marijuana, compared to other illegal and legal
drugs like alcohol, nicotine and cocaine and even the ones used actually for
medicinal purposes, has a low potential of addictiveness.
It’s still not a zero percent chance of
becoming dependable and it can even cause some light withdrawal symptoms but
with a supervised use in hospitals like any other medication it can potentially
improve the life quality of people
The only
thing left to do is to hear the voices of millions who claim that their
experience whit marijuana has been positive and start to do something about it.
Despite the fact that marijuana could bring some benefits to a large group of people, it cannot deny that consuming weed (smoke, eat, etc) makes a lot damage to young people, especially those in early development. Goberments have to take control in how this herb is used by the population and explain the real pros and cons.
